April Newsletter

Cold & dry is the only way to describe the weather for April. It’s so dry we turned irrigation on 1 week early for the first time ever. It’s 23 degrees out as I type this, good thing it’s been sunny at least. It’s also been exceptionally windy many days causing lots of debris to be flying around and some limb damage as well.

The dandelions have started early and we’ve already been spot spraying in an effort to reduce their damage throughout the summer. Our efforts at early weeds control in the beds have met with pretty good results and we’ll be continuing in early May.

I have good & bad news on the fertilizer issues. The good news is that our supply of organic fertilizer is strong and we should not have issues this spring with availability (we did last year). The bad news is that the price has gone up for the first time in many years. Part of the reason is that the retailers re-organized over the winter and were bought out by larger companies. Our 20+ year relationship with them as a leader in the organics filed has disappeared. The end result is a 25+ % increase in our price.

Our costs went up $7+ PER BAG of fertilizer. We will be absorbing a bit of that here but the cost to you will go up $6 per bag (2,000 feet of turf).

Some of you may have seen me doing some spraying or irrigation work from a motorcycle. So far it doesn’t have any signage on it but it will shortly. It really helps reduce expenses on some outlying runs and makes after hours call outs a bit more fun also.

We’ve added a few new clients in April and I’m looking forward to a pretty fun May. See ya then.

Thanks for your continued trust and support.
